Mazda's Smart City Brake Support

Defying convention is what keeps Mazda at the forefront of desirability for people who love to drive quality vehicles. Our goal is for your vehicle to feel right in your hands, that's why we design the entire driving experience around you, because #DrivingMatters

One aspect that's vital to designing an unmatched driving experience is keeping you safe behind the wheel. On this third blog post about Mazda's technological innovations, we will explore Mazda's Smart City Brake Support (SCBC), an available feature that is part of Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE technology.

What is Smart City Brake Support?

When there is a risk of a collision while driving at low speeds in the city or in slow traffic, Mazda's Smart City Brake Support system automatically stops or reduces the speed of your car. This system prevents collisions when cars travel at speeds between 4 and 30 km/h (2 to 18 mph).

How does it work?

Mazda's Smart City Brake Support technology will detect when your vehicle is closing in on a vehicle or object ahead. A laser sensor on the windshield will automatically slow or stop the car with no brake operation by the driver, which can help avoid a collision or reduce the damages resulting from one. If the driver fails to perform any operation to avoid a collision, such as applying the brake, SCBC automatically activates the brakes and reduces the engine output at the same time. Watch the following video to see this technology in action:
